Welcome to the world of The Huggable Horribles. I’m thrilled you are visiting my site. Are you someone who lives with a mood disorder? Do you know someone who needs help coping with personal challenges? I invite you to join our community to EMBRACE YOUR INNER MONSTER.
Each Huggable Horrible has a story behind it, these stories may resonate with you or someone you know. You may find yourself talking to it or crying into it. I want The Huggable Horribles to provide comfort and solace to those going through tough times.
The Huggable Horribles are service monsters, talismans to create a safe comfort zone. We want you to hug your horribles away and know you are not alone. We have included a little diary so you can write your own story and feelings.
Together we can educate and support one another to stop the stigma of mental illness.
My name is Lizzy Mayer. I have always expressed my feelings and moods through my art. Life has been very challenging at times as I live with bipolar disorder. When there are imbalances in the brain, medication can be helpful - when you find the right one. Imagine you’re trying to turn on a lamp, but you can’t because the lamp is unplugged. Once you plug in the lamp, you have access and control of the on and off switch. The lamp is my brain, and the outlet is my medication combined with psychotherapy, DBT training, and a team of incredible advocates. I have learned I am not my diagnosis. It is just one piece of what makes me, me!

These limited edition Huggable Horribles are handmade locally in New York and New Jersey. We have partnered with OASIS, A Haven for Women and Children. Their mission is to enable poor women to learn entrepreneurial skills to break the cycle of poverty . We are already combating stigmas.
Feel free to give your monster a new story, one that empowers you ! Share your positives on our website. These monsters are more than stuffed animal s they are touchable, huggable pieces of art . We will donate a piece of each sale to various not-for-profits that are helping those with mental illness.

Mary brings her sensitivity and intellect to the Huggable Horrible family. A graduate of SUNY New Paltz she writes what is relatable to many. You’ll never see Mary baking in the sun but you sure can find her splashing in the ocean or hiking along a wooded trail laughing at the simple joys of life.
We approached her to see if she could bring life to our furry friends In a way that would have meaning to those who have similar issues yet be general enough that others can see parts of themselves in each character.
